Affordable Housing Commission
February 15, 2019Over the past year, the housing sector has seen the production of several high-profile reviews and reports, including the Governments Social Housing Green paper, the Shelter commission which called for 3.1 million new social homes and a new regulator.
The latest of these, the Affordable Housing Commission is to be chaired by Lord Richard Best. He has said that his view of the work of the commission will be to continue from the Shelter report in respect of how to deliver the big strategic picture they have identified with regard to:
• How do we make that happen?
• What are the measures?
• What are the solutions?
• Saying: ‘Here are some realistic, politically acceptable, practical ways of solving the affordability crisis.’
In particular the Commission has identified four key groups it wants to help through its work: struggling renters, frustrated homeowners, those reliant on state support and those facing affordability issues in older age.
The AHC plans to produce their final report early in 2020.
