Poplar HARCA’s Aberfeldy Village scheme shortlisted for award
October 8, 2021
Collaboration between the Aberfeldy community, housing association Poplar HARCA and residential developer EcoWorld is getting noticed for its work to revitalise Aberfeldy Street as part of the wider Aberfeldy regeneration scheme.
The team – including Askival’s Malcolm Ward as project director and Tony Draper as leasehold director – has been shortlisted for the New London Architecture Awards.
Known as the Aberfeldy Meanwhile programme, the project makes sure Aberfeldy Street remains a vibrant community, social and commercial hub, during and after the regeneration. The Aberfeldy meanwhile project has physically transformed the street with technicolour murals inspired by the local community. ITV news did a report on it last year.
The programme is also providing ongoing support for local business owners to ensure their businesses develop and thrive, including Leon and Josh, who run Roots barbers, on the High Street, pictured here.
Malcolm Ward said: “It is great to be shortlisted for the People’s Choice Award. Everyone involved is working hard to ensure that the community benefits during the regeneration programme and beyond it. The Meanwhile project is a clear demonstration that co-operation pays dividends. The Aberfeldy community is as vibrant as ever.”
